The Housing Authority of Pompano Beach has proposed an affordable apartment complex for seniors in the city.
The city’s Development Review Committee will consider the site plan for expansion of Golden Acres Senior Housing on Aug. 17. The Housing Authority already owns the 4.36-acre site at 1050 and 991 N.W. 18th Drive. It currently has 164 affordable housing units that were built in the 1980s.
The housing authority aims to expand the housing on site with two three-story buildings with a combined 100 units of affordable senior housing. They would be equally divided between one-bedroom and two-bedroom units.
It would be constructed on a basketball court, and a portion of the site that’s vacant.
Andrea Harper of Pompano Beach-based planning firm Keith, which represents the applicant, couldn’t be reached for comment.
Miami-based architecture firm Anillo Toledo Lopez designed the project.
With rents surging by double digits in Broward County, many low-income seniors have struggled to find apartments they can afford. This project would provide additional units to meet that need.
